Ways to Choose the Right Moisturizer

It is necessary to find the right product for skin that loses moisture with the cooling air. But “Which moisturizer should I buy?” The question is confusing. In order to choose the most suitable product for your needs, first of all, skin diagnosis is required. A complete diagnosis is based on three criteria: skin sensitivity, type and youthfulness.

Skin sensitivity: Although there is no exact scientific definition of this problem, we can explain the sensitivity situation objectively and subjectively. Objectively, the skin's hyperreactivity to patch tests can be mentioned. In a subjective sense, it is the 'tingling' sensation that the skin gives after application or contact with the product.

Common features are:

– Stretching of the skin l Tingling

– Redness l Exfoliation, flaking l Burning sensation l Itching l Swelling

– Fine texture and fair skin

Skin sensitivity is not a pathological skin disease or a health problem. Epidemiological studies show that 50 percent of women complain of sensitive skin structure, while 10 percent of them experience periodic sensitivity.

Skin type: Observation should be evaluated in relation to symptoms and outcome. Observation; the skin's appearance, texture, condition and color of the pores, and how it feels when touched. Symptoms include a tendency to shine, spotting, and blackheads. Looking at the result, skin type categories emerge.

Skin type categories

Appearance of oily skin: Matte, radiant complexion. Lots of open pores and thick, uneven skin texture.

Characteristic of oily skin: Excessive sebum secretion, tendency to blackheads is protected by a thick, supple and natural lipidic film. Makeup does not stay on the skin for long. The signs of aging appear later and are more resistant to the sun.

Appearance of normal skin: Smooth, fresh and radiant skin. Fine, regular skin texture, no open pores. Velvet, smooth touch.

Characteristic of normal skin:
Flexible, elastic and slightly irritated.

Karma cilt görünümü: Yağlı ‘T’
bölgesi, kuru yanak bölgesi ve görünmez gözenekler.

Karma cildin karakteristiği: Karma cilt tipi, yanak bölgesinde hassasiyet.

Characteristic of combination skin: Combination skin type, tenderness in the cheek area.

Dry skin appearance:
Matte, invisible pores, fine and transparent texture.

Characteristic of dry skin:
Sensitive skin prone to dehydration, fine lines and redness. Make-up stays on the skin like a mask.

Very dry skin appearance: Transparent, translucent and fine texture, roughness, redness.

There are different varieties

Cream moisturizers: They are formulations that are a mixture of water and oil. Suitable for dry and very dry skin.

Lotion moisturizers: These are formulations with a high water content. Lotion moisturizers, which are ideal for most skin types, are cosmetic preparations that oily skin may prefer.

Gel moisturizers:

Although they are not as moisturizing as creams, they do not clog pores with their fine structure. With this feature, it is ideal for the use of sensitive and oily skin.

Effects of moisturizing agents

Moisturizers containing ceramide, which makes up the majority of the skin's lipid layer, support the protection of the barrier by repairing it. Glycerol, hyaluronic acid, squalene, vitamin E and shea butter are among the products with rich moisturizing properties. You can choose moisturizers that contain actives such as AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid), salicylic acid and vitamin C for the improvement of recurring acne and frequent black spots.
